This week's Gospel: 5th Sunday of Ordinary Time

The actual Latin source is Codex Sangallensis 56,
but this is believed to be an ultra-faithful copy of Victor's Codex Fuldensis Gospel.

This Week's Gospel: Mark 1: 22 - 39
(8th-Feb-2009) 5th Sunday of Ordinary Time, Year B

He cured many who suffered from diseases of one kind or another.
As with last week’s reading, the account in Mark is not witnessed directly. This is though a very similar tale, and in a similar context. Taken maily from Matthew, it embodies an insertion from Luke. So, then, what was a single tale, has been augmented, and expanded to comprise the three capita following.

XLVIII. Ubi socrum Petri a febribus sanavit Ihesus.
(Where Jesus cures Peter's wife's mother of fever.)

XLVIIII. Ubi Ihesus in civitatem Naim mortuum resuscitat.
(Where Jesus resuscitates a dead man in the city of Naim.)

L. Ubi omnes infirmitates curat, ut adinplerentur scripturæ prophetarum.
(Where He cures all infirmities, that the scripture of the prophets might be fulfilled.)

48: 1
And when Jesus was come into Peter’s house,
he saw his wife’s mother lying, and sick of a fever;
2
And he touched her hand,
and the fever left her,
and she arose and ministered to them.

49: 1
And it came to pass afterwards that he went into a city that is called Naim:
and there went with him his disciples and a great multitude.
2
And when he came nigh to the gate of the city,
behold a dead man was carried out,
the only son of his mother:
and she was a widow.
And a great multitude of the city was with her.
3
And when the Lord had seen her,
being moved with mercy towards her, he said to her:
Weep not.
And he came near and touched the bier.
4
And they that carried it stood still. And he said:
Young man, I say to thee, arise.
And he that was dead sat up and begun to speak.
And he gave him to his mother.
5
And there came a fear upon them all:
and they glorified God saying:
A great prophet is risen up among us:
and, God hath visited his people.
6
And this rumour of him went forth throughout all Judea
and throughout all the country round about.

50: 1
And when evening was come,
they brought to him many that were possessed with devils:
and he cast out the spirits with his word:
and all that were sick he healed:
2
That it might be fulfilled,
which was spoken by the prophet Isaias, saying:
He took our infirmities,
and bore our diseases.
3
And Jesus seeing great multitudes about him, gave orders to pass over the water.
