This week's Gospel: 7th Sunday of Ordinary Time

The actual Latin source is Codex Sangallensis 56,
but this is believed to be an ultra-faithful copy of Victor's Codex Fuldensis Gospel.

This Week's Gospel: Mark 2: 1 - 12
(22nd-Feb-2009) 7th Sunday of Ordinary Time, Year B

The Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.
The account found here, though winessing the same incident, is mainly reported according to Luke, though the first and last dozen words are from Matthew. Only a single word, ‘four’, the number of men carrying the litter, is taken from Mark. The tale is embodied in the capitulum following.

LIIII. Ubi curavit paralyticum quem deposuerunt per tectum.
(Where He cured a paralytic whom they lowered through the roof.)

54: 1
And entering into a boat, he passed over the water and came into his own city.
2
And behold, four men brought in a bed a man who had the palsy:
and they sought means to bring him in and to lay him before Jesus.
3
And when they could not find by what way they might bring him in,
because of the multitude, they went up upon the roof and let him down
through the tiles with his bed into the midst before Jesus.
4
When he saw their faith, he said:
Believe, child, thy sins are forgiven thee.
5
And the scribes and Pharisees began to think, saying:
Who is this who speaketh blasphemies?
Who can forgive sins, but God alone?
6
And when Jesus knew their thoughts, answering he said to them:
What is it you think in your hearts?
Which is easier to say:
Thy sins are forgiven thee; or to say:
Arise and walk?
7
But that you may know that the Son of man
hath the power on earth to forgive sins

(he saith to the sick of the palsy),
I say to thee: Arise, take up thy bed and go into thy house.
8
And immediately rising up before them,
he took up the bed on which he lay:
and he went away to his own house, glorifying God.
And all were astonished: and they glorified God.
9
And they were filled with fear, saying:
We have seen wonderful things to-day.
And glorified God that gave such power to men.
